WILSONIAN SOLDIERS..

I don't know about you but I'm always a bit leery of documentaries. YAWN, right?

Yet, there a lot of really wonderful ones out there and when you find a really good one, don't you want to share it?

I have one for you on NetFlix called "Giving Voice," a celebration of August Wilson's work and legacy and its impact on young teen actors in a monologue competition which follows 6 of the student competitors.

Its magnificence is one of watching this new generation pursue acting while delving into Wilson's words of racial injustice in which they both identify and learn history of the Black experience.

Albeit a competition it's like summer camp where friendships are bonded as they share their love of theatre, performing and learning, becoming more like family and touted as "Wilsonian Soldiers."

My personal introduction to August Wilson was Fences on Broadway with Denzel Washington and the most recent was Wilson's Ma' Rainey's Black Bottom

How timely for this documentary to accompany the recent release of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom directed by James D. Stern and Fernando Villena and features Denzel Washington, Aaron Guy, Gerardo Navarro, Nia Sarfo, Jack Viertel, Freedom Martin and Cody Merridith. Executive producers John Legend and Viola Davis.

Treat yourself to GIVING VOICE...

Here's a trailer from YouTube:Giving Voice
