Monday we couldn't assemble as a community to commemorate the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. due to the virus but over 800 viewers joined the annual program over ZOOM. Our key note speaker was the Rev. William Barber II, someone I have always wanted to hear in person as his accolades are many... Guess this might be the closest I am going to get.
What caught my eye was the banner behind Rev. Barber with the logo "M.O.R.E" acronym for a moral movement of We can do M.O.R.E. (Mobilize, Organize, Register, Education)
Barber is instrumental in the Poor People's Campaign Revival, a movement connecting and tackling the same racism, poverty and militarism of the late 60's. At its root is our country's systemic racism.
Barber spoke of Five Injustices and rather than hear them from me, here is a succinct powerful explanation on a short CBS News Hour segment with Judy Woodruff: FIVE INJUSTICES (flip it over to audio/transcript whichever you prefer)
Our country has a big job ahead of it and this is obviously a movement starting from the bottom up. We, the people of the United States, can do MORE and definitely deserve MORE.
