MIDWEEK MUSING MAKING PEACE

Arkansas Peace Week this year spans September 17-24 with a week of varied outreach educational activities providing opportunities of  service and dialogue.

One of my favorite nights is the annual Interfaith Dinner which took place Monday night at the Madina Institute.

We were welcomed by Sophia Said, the original organizer of the evening who has helped ensure its continuation for almost a decade.

About 120 people participated as we broke naan bread together with a Middle Eastern meal followed by speakers espouting their outlook regarding Peace.

Our speakers although different in age, sex, religious orientation and education shared the commonality of why we all were there - to make this world a little smaller and more peaceful.

Our youngest speaker shared her peers and personal activist  efforts to be WOKE with the realization that one person cannot solve the world's problems by oneself and this work must be tackled in pieces and by working together to create a more peaceful world.

This year's tables were decorated with previous Arkansas art and essay contest winners' work. Over a 1000 entries were received this year with visions of a better future for our young people.
It gives one hope to be part of such an evening where we realize we share this planet and we are all part of the solution for peace.
