Getting Out of Dodge/ Bringing Home the Bacon?

Remember the anticipation of going on a school field trip? It really didn't matter where you were headed.

It was this same excitement of leaving home and doing something different that bit friend Sue when she heard of my car trip intentions even though the 'real shopping' purpose was definitely mundane.   She was going to be seriously disappointed if I postponed the outing in case a phone call that morning resulted in the knowledge of the desired product's inavailability. She actually lost sleep over the excitement of getting 'out of Dodge'.
Store brand the best brownie mix ever

So if I show you this product do you know  the field trip's destination? ( It's a store brand.) I'm so sneaky, I cropped off the top of the box. So guess?

We don't have one of these stores in the La Crosse area but if we cross the river into Minnesota and travel an hour we can find the closest one in Rochester.

And no, I wouldn't be buying my favorite Truffle Baking Mix because Passover is next week and my job will be to remove all leavening agents and foods for the week, not purchasing them.

OK so did you recognize this "Trader Joe's" specialty item? It so happens that Trader Joe's carries some things we can't find in the stores here...
Kosher for Passover meat

Yep, not only Kosher meat but Kosher for Passover meat. And if you think the cost of meat has gone up, Kosher beef brisket costs $4 more per pound this year. But in my mind a holiday without brisket can't be a holiday.

So this kosher meat finding field trip actually ended up having a Kodak moment. Do you remember seeing this ad for the last few years in December?

The  'delicious for Chanukah' sign on ham was far from kosher as most jewish people even if they don't keep kosher, don't consider 'pork' one of their holiday foods.

Well, Trader Joe's almost did something as absurd.

Take a look at the Kosher meat placement?

Oops, uh oh yep that's bacon on the top shelf of the Kosher meat section.  Well, it looks like someone is going to have the task of   reorganizing the Kosher section in Trader Joe's in Rochester...

Some days you just never know where your laughs are going to come from and it could even be a field trip out of the End of the Rainbow Valley to a grocery store...
