MONDAY MUSINGS: GOT YOUR GOAT

Strange how sometimes alignment happens... you know I can never tell a short story, so let me back track a bit. Remember we sent our 3 goats off for a winter vacay as we didn't know what was in store for our household during Natureman's health and hospital visits. It was one less worry.

One of the 3, a buck, was given to the fostering farm, the friendliest doe, my favorite passed away there for some unknown reason and the other doe Zelda, returned to the End of the Rainbow Valley not pregnant last week. It was disappointing to say the least as I was looking forward to having a kid, new life frolicking in the pasture.  Natureman had also  been missing goat's milk in his morning coffee.

So after checking where we usually take our goats to be freshened (stud service) we discovered a couple dozen had just been sold at market but there was doe at another farm which had been freshened and was for sale. Natureman contacted those owners and explained how we needed a companion for our one goat and that he also wanted a milker. Apparently this goat didn't give oodles of milk but that was okay as we didn't need a lot.  While on the phone Natureman started laughing because the owner asked if he was Republican. Unusual question, right? It turns out this goat's number was 45.  As in you know who in the White House. We both got a chuckle out of that...

The doe's name is Flourine ( Florine) as in the chemical element chart. One of her owners was in Nuclear Medicine and names the goats after the elements. LOL. But here's how we knew she would be happy with us.  Her home was Rainbow Ridge Farms.

Florine is fitting in quite well as a sweet, very friendly gal right here in the  End of the Rainbow Valley. Not only does Zelda have a new friend, Natureman has the most expensive milk ever in his coffee... Wink, wink.

Bonus for me is we can take Fluorine back to Rainbow Ridge to be freshened so we can have a kid bouncing around the pasture next spring...

  1. I did not know about "freshening". Nice story. Cute pic of the kids.
