PACK N PLAY VIRGIN

A couple Sundays ago I had a specific date to make.  It involved a car trip with my granddaughter who had been in our charges for the weekend while her parents attended a family wedding in the Quad Cities. Wouldn't you know that the best laid plans can go awry. Guess who decided to sleep in that morning? It wasn't me.  I kept waiting for the princess to wake up.

The plan was to return Ms. Hannah in time for the wedding brunch that lasted until noon to meet her Zayde David's side of the family.  Everything which could be packed the day before was in the car but you know you can't pack up the Pack n' Play, her bed, with the baby in it. It wasn't like she could be transferred into her car seat and we could take off with her breakfast and bottle to be fed right away.

I kept walking into her room and she was sleeping like a baby. Out to the world. We were already an hour late according to the original plan and my Mom's words of wisdom were difficult to heed. "Never wake a sleeping child." BUT the trip would take over 3 hrs. The inevitable had to happen as it was already 7.  She didn't even fuss as she was lifted out of dreamland, changed, sat on Natureman's lap as her Bubbe wrestled to collapse the Pack n Play and get into its carrying case correctly. Where is the dang handle? Within 15 minutes we were on our way. Should this Grandma have practiced this Houdini act before?

Of course, there were a couple of stops to change diapers but we made it before everybody was on their way. In fact, Denver cousins were next to us in the parking area ready to head their Chicago grandbabies as Hannah's dirty diaper and outfit were being changed.  Great first meeting, right?

But the most important meeting was awaiting across the street in the restaurant.  Hannah, the newest member of the clan was meeting her eldest relative, 102 year old Great Great Aunt Bert .

It was a joy to see Hannah's reactions as everybody wanted to hold and meet the newest arrival. Aunt Bert assured me Hannah was OK in her book. It was a pleasure having a little part in making sure the two could meet. Time to head back to the End of the Rainbow Valley...
