FOTO FRIDAY this week is 'unusual' places to eat.
This past week we have spent 3 evenings celebrating the harvest eating in the sukkah not to mention 3 daytime snacks.
What is a sukkah?
It is a temporary booth/hut with branch roofs constructed to celebrate the Jewish week long holiday of Sukkoth commemorating the temporary housing given by G-d after the Jews were freed from being slaves in Egypt. Sukkahs are decorated with harvest fruits, vegetables/religious themes.
They vary in appearance but the most intricate ones we have ever eaten in are Natureman's oldest sister's Samaritan sukkah in the Twin Cities. One constant in their sukkah is the quantity of harvest foods hanging from its laborious ceiling. Isn't this something?
Apples, limes, pomegranates, lemons, eggplants, oranges hang from the sukkah's rafters amidst twinkling lights and construction paper chains.
This year some 40 guests enjoyed a light dinner and feminist themed program on Jewish heroines. More on that in my next entry.
So do you have a story/pic of an unusual eating place/harvest tradition. Do share.
Here are other sukkahs...
Jana's family sukkah in Little Rock,AR
Hannah adorning her family sukkah in Onalaska, WI.
Notice the lattice walls are popular.
A Google employee set up one at the office and other Google sites followed suit.
