CRAWLING ...

If you were going to crawl last weekend up in the North Woods, it was the perfect weekend to crawl, Art Crawl, that is, when leaves were at their fall color peak en route to the artist studios hidden in some very beautiful locales...

After perusing the list of 40+ artists we chose a variety of mediums in nearby towns and our gracious host mapped out our stops. We would visit 3 studios Saturday morning where 5 artists would have their work on display.

Our first stop after meandering back roads of bright yellow leaves, brought us to Black Squirrels Studio of Louise Engelbrecht, weaver and watercolor artist who lives on a lake right next to her light filled remodeled cabin studio with great lake views.

Charming building on property

When  asked whether photos could be taken, there was hesitation which is exactly why I ask the artist...

To be perfectly honest,  sometimes an artist's display of tools is as artful as their art...

Her yummy weaving colors definitely spoke to me.

Next was Bear Paw studio with John and Vickie Langer and their gorgeous log home flanked by the lovely pond below and sprinkled with sculptures by other artists ...

Vickie told me John had the pottery, she had the horses. Quite a magnificent setting for both.

Horses grazed out this potter's studio windows.

In just four years John's studio is brimming over with supplies as he  accumulated four other potters's goods who  closed their studios.

In the garage was more pottery for us to purchase in addition  to BJChristian Designs jeweler and also textile artist Sherri Smith with great shawls, one of which went home with me. Wink, wink.

The last stop of the morning  was Ann Waisbrot, a St. Germain resident who paints in her home with this view.

Excursions add  subject matter for her lovely landscape and nature paintings.
'Loved the touch of adding a silk panel to the deer fence for us.

fabric hanging outside on the deer fence.
The out of doors must make one hungry because in no time it was  lunchtime so back we headed to Sugar Camp for refueling. More studios awaited us in the afternoon... Stay tuned for tomorrow's blog.
