AN EGGROLL IS NOT A SPRING ROLL

One of my favorite fundraisers to support as it also helps refill my freezer is a big money maker for our local HMCCA Hmong Community & Cultural Agency. Although not a 'traditional' Hmong food, they know their larger community's love for egg rolls. The first day of the two-day fall 'egg roll' sales surpassed $7,000. That's a lot of egg rolls to make and sell which takes a whole lot of the Hmong community and friend helpers. And yes, they can be frozen.
BTW spring rolls would be truly traditional.

Someone's got to fill all the sauce containers
As in any food fundraiser volunteers are needed to do PR, now via an extensive email list, the traditional/new media sources i.e. FaceBook. A lot of volunteers for pre-sale orders, kitchen help with shopping, prepping and assembling and cooking of ingredients for both contents of the egg rolls and 2 sauces ( a hot or sweet sour sauce), packers, deliverers, sale cashiers, treasurer, organizers, etc...

I got a quick out look into the assembly lines. The unexpected station was the pre separating of the wrappers which makes a lot of sense.  If you are an assembler, it'd be extra helpful to be able to grab an individual wrapper.

The Center has been tweaking this fundraiser endeavor for a while. A change has been made as to the purchase number and prices of the pork/veggie egg rolls in groups of 3, 6/ dozen with prices $5, $10, $15 respectively. Extra sauce is also available in small/ larger 6 oz containers @$2. Written instructions for reheating/freezing have been printed which is a great addition as I personally always forget in-between serving them.* see below

Anyhow, our purchase went straight into an insulated bag for grocery shopping I keep in the car. Boy, did it smell good riding home! Although those egg rolls were still warm for lunch, they did get a little toaster oven time. Two each was plenty and the remainder got vacuum sealed for another day. These will just have to hold us until another sale-

Until then... we, in the community appreciate all the work of our Hmong neighbors to bring us yummy fresh egg rolls!

* Reheating instructions:
Preheat oven to 375.
Place eggrolls on cookie sheet.
Cook15-20 minutes.
or
  microwave for 2 minutes on high (one minute per side)

  1. Their egg rolls are the best! I always looked forward to that event. They also set up at the Logan Craft Fair but you have to get them early as they tend to sell out.
