ROAD TRIPPing Fun With the Girls

It was long overdue. Time for a road trip with the girls. Fifteen Jazzercisers in 3 cars headed west for a little over an hour to reach the charming town of Lanesboro, Minnesota now celebrating 2 seasons; fall and road repair. Hey, at least the oranges matched.
I enjoyed an amazing Chicken pot pie
Today's adventure would involve food - lunch at pedal pushers and Main Street shopping without the additional activities Lanesboro's also known for theater, the Commonweal/ Sunday Radio Show in addition to out-of-door activities like cycling, canoeing /tubing/hiking. The only walking we'd be doing was sauntering from one store to another in Lanesboro's 3 block downtown.

We shared two tables enjoying each other 's company as we  ate our lunches at pedal pushers. I ordered the homemade chicken pot pie I had read about on Travel Advisors and was not one bit disappointed. YUMMY. I don't remember the last time I had eaten a chicken pot pie!

There was some sadness in this glorious day too as some of my favorite Lanesboro stores have closed since my last visit and not seasonally either, permanently. Bitter Sweet, a fun dress boutique was one of them...Very sad indeed and its replacement, an antique store, was also closed. The state of our economy is even apparent in small popular tourist towns...

A two o'clock meeting time decision was made to check if 5 miles down the road, Whelan's Aroma Pie Shop would be open. It wasn't and besides a posted weekend open schedule, a For Sale sign also greeted us there. Pretty soon that bike trail stop will also be gone. BUT we had a backup plan... next stop Rushford en route home at the Norsland Lefse and Bakery. They were open as we joined locals mid afternoon for a snack... We were even invited back to watch lefse, a Norwegian potato flour flat tortilla being made.

We girls can have a good time no matter where we are.

  1. You are such a goofy group! I can almost hear the laughter and fun you bring into the establishments you visit, spreading your good cheer as you go.
