Another Facelift For An Old Friend Señor Pablo

If you grew up in the Heights in Little Rock, Arkansas you are quite familiar with a neighborhood eatery called Brownings Mexican Restaurant. I have written before about it being our 'go to' reunion spot.

Over the past 10 years various owners have tried to rejuvenate the 'tired' space both cosmetically and culinary wise. Messing with the traditional menu and its recipes just disappointed its regulars. This latest facelift may have just achieved moving its clientele to a new era of trendy and calling it what it is, Arkansas Mex.

Señor Pablo may have left the building but pobre Pablo (Poor Pablo) might not end up being so poor financially...
Hola to Heights Taco & Tamale Company.

The place has been hopping since the latest change of ownership and cosmetic makeover.  In fact, on Friday when friends and I tried to go, there was a 2 hour wait. There are no reservations which I hope will change in the future.  Otherwise how will we continue reunions there? Anyhow we opted to eat elsewhere that evening.

Monday night the stars were aligned and friends Kaye, Shep and I enjoyed window seating watching the in and out of doors eaters  while visiting over the restaurant's frenzy of conversations. Yep, the noise level is an issue as in many of the new places, nothing to absorb that sound. But after a cocktail or two, you won't notice it so much...

You must try the frozen Arkansas Mojitos served in a cozee, no less. Of course, I ate my fresh mint sprig!

We sampled various salsa appetizers with our chips,  the familiar yet different tasting cheese dip, a green chile salsa, an onion dip salsa and a sweet red salsa.

For entrees, at our table two of us had the Pickled Fried Chicken Tacos with sides of black beans, rice, and ...

the Plato1947 (the year Brownings opened) Yep, that's an Arkansas flag. (How dang cute is that?) with the cucumber mint salad.

Unfortunately they only have pork tamales but hey they'll need to add other fillings as well i.e. sweet tamales if they are having 'tamale' in their name.

We didn't have room for dessert but I am looking forward to return visits when I can sample more off the menu.

Good company, good drink and good food. We were happy campers and left sated. What else can one ask for?
