DNR

DNR does not always stand for "Do Not Resuscitate." In fact, if anything, it was quite apparent at the 3+ hour public hearing held by the DNR, Department of Natural Resources, regarding the advisability of having a second rail through the La Crosse Marsh and Wetlands, the citizens are not going to let this issue die.

The DNR may have conducted an analysis but citizen after citizen voiced their opposition to a second rail in the overflowing room at the Black Beach Community Center.  Citizens continually pleaded for an Environmental Impact Study (E.I.S.) to be conducted.

Concerns were numerous and indicative that this community and surrounding Mississippi River communities are deeply concerned regarding the growing number of pipeline oil trains in our Upper Mississippi River Valley Wildlife Refuge and want an E.I.S., Environmental Impact Study conducted before any permit is granted to build a second rail through the marsh and wetlands.

Listening to the 6 pm news you would have thought I was in a different place than the TV reporter who used the word 'some' speakers being in opposition to a second rail. Seriously???!!! One person in the 3 hours spoke in favor of the line and he was from the railroad workers union and he had specific reservations. His and others's concerns TBC (to be continued).  Stay tuned...

*I will add various groups's email addresses including the DNR's as I verify them. Meanwhile check out FaceBook's CARS (Citizens Acting for Rail Safety) Be proactive and submit your concerns.
