MUGS CAFÉ...

Coffee houses can be found anywhere nowadays. I would even venture to say people prefer to hang out at a coffeehouse over meeting up with friends at the mall. Wouldn't you agree? I know
there are all ages at one of my favorite coffee houses, Java Vino, in La Crosse since the high school is just a couple blocks away.

Anyhow, Little Rock is no different so while we were in Argenta, in fact, just next door, my foodie buds, Kaye and Shep also made sure we stopped into a coffee house named "Mugs Café" where the owners's specific vision was to be a "third place like Ray Oldenburg's 'The Great Good Old Place,' an informal gathering place where people in a particular neighborhood meet and develop friendships, discuss issues and network: to be a place to eat and drink without the pressure to consume and move on."k with others.

Mugs Café located at 515 Main Street in North Little Rock is a very unique coffee house because besides serving coffee, breakfast/lunch items and ice cream, it's also home to a church on Sunday am's. Inside a small table with cross, chalice and other items await use.

The first wall that  greets one upon entering is a line from an arabic poem  regarding coffee...

And the other walls have rotating exhibits and this month's were filled by 3 local artists. These included painted puzzle shaped pieces by Patrick Fleming, Fran Austin's charcoal and pen portraits and Denise White's portraits with bold color.  You don't need me to tell you why White's portrayal of Bess hit a soft spot for this Wisconsinite...
by Denise White  who captured a cow with a lot of personality

Mugs Café has a large space for working on your computer/ visiting with friends/ just having a cup of joe and reading.

Seating allows a multitude of possibilities including outside.
I personally chose the impressive 'upcycled' world wall mural space. Yep, that's corrugated roofing mixed in with the recycled wood.

There's even a perfect back room with a wall of windows which illuminates the space with great natural light for small group meetings. Restrooms are also in this back room and, as some of you already know,  I am really into restroom decorating so I appreciated their humorous poster reminder to wash your hands...

Mugs Café has a great space, good eats and should be put on your list of places to frequent if you haven't already whether you are a central Arkansan/tourist.  Go try it out and tell them Bess's friend sent you...

  1. Any place there's caffeine lively people tend to gather. I wish I could have learned to enjoy the taste of coffee. It always smells so good and it's so popular...but alas, this is one Norwegian who has a genetic mishap and can't seem to abide it.
