FOTO FRIDAY: GETTING TO THE CHUPPAH

From upcycling old porch beams Evan, our handy groom, constructed the Chuppah, canopy/covering under which he and his bride would stand during their wedding ceremony. The Chuppah is symbolic of the home the couple will build together. All four sides of the Chuppah are open as was the tent of Abraham in the Bible to signify hospitality in welcoming all guests. There is no furniture/possessions inside to emphasize the people as important, not the possessions. The sky is left viewable through its ceiling to allow nature's majesty and the presence of G-d.

Lori and Evan's Chuppah was a collaborative effort with Evan as Chief Foreman and carpenter and Lori's brother Steven assistant engineer.  I was fortunate to be on the painting crew with Lori and Evan during my last visit to Atlanta.

Thursday of the wedding Lori's buddies and I figured out how to drape the tule netting and a couple of possibilities of using Lori's tallit, her Bat Mitzvah prayer shawl, between the draping netting.  Friday, Natureman helped dismantle it and Evan's friends then transported and reconstructed on the Hyatt Perimeter's Villa Cristina grounds.

It was perfect in their wedding setting.

The Chuppah now will make its home in the newlyweds's parklike backyard and serve as a beautiful reminder of a picture perfect beginning of their married life together.

May they always remember the joy of their wedding day. We all wish them Mazal Tov with all our love!

Do you have a wedding photo to share? Please do. Send it in at any time and it will be included in FOTO FRIDAY.

Thanks to buddy Kaye for sharing her joy when daughter Olivia recently tied the knot with Billy in Mountain Magnolia Inn in Hot Springs, North Carolina. xoxo

Pam shared the jumping of the broom at her son Dahshi & Sandra's wedding day in the islands. Has it been two years now?

Jennifer and her father made her Chuppah for her 1991 wedding in Iowa City. The florist wrapped the legs with ivy and they draped it with our wedding tallis.

The last FOTO FRIDAY was DON'T PLAY WITH YOUR FOOD.

  1. The chuppah is lovely and I'm so glad they can repurpose it in their back yard. Now they have a ready made Sukkoh as well! The other wedding photos are great, I love the bend in the tree with the lights in the one and I've never seen the jumping of the broom. It's so nice to see these old customs continued.
