MONDAY MUSINGS: COLLECTIONS

MONDAY MUSINGS: do you collect anything like baseball cards/ beanie babies/ cars, etc...? 

Well, one Little Rock resident has quite a collection of purses, in fact~ 4,000. So she created a museum to showcase her collection, dedicating it to their design and function. 

The Esse Museum is one of two purse museums in the world. 

Photos of women through the decades specifically 1900- 1990's illustrate the presence of purses. 

 

Of course, exhibits change as there are a lot of purses to display. Our group was able to view the Secret History of Economics.

And if one is wondering if your purse is too heavy, you can even weigh it. Guess which weight is recommended!

Exhibits showed all sorts of objects carried in purses throughout the years... You may be surprised at the array of contents.   

And as most women tend to always need another purse there is a great gift shop that supports other small businesses... 

Go visit the Esse Museum and travel through history.

MIDWEEK MUSINGS: NAT'L ENVIRONMENTAL DAY

There's litte energy to battle anything too political this week as it will be needed next week as I will be with the grands (ages almost 7 and 2 1/2. )Their summer schedule arrived and I am exhausted just looking at it. 

Did you know that today is National Environmental Day?

The backyard has finally gotten more attention since 4 trees had to be removed due to the September microburst. New native plants and shrubs have been planted along the back beds with some veggies and flowers filling another bed and the herbs are thriving due to all the rain.

lavender,  3 species of eggplant, tomatoes and zinnias for color 

Man yearns to control the environment but it has a life of its own... We shall see if this gardener can keep up with it all. 

And for moments of reprieve there's a new path, named the Yellow Brick Road,  to lead to the newly remodeled back deck with a screened-in porch with seating  within and out.  Comfy for curling up with a book/ eating a daily meal.

We need to be kind to our environment and enjoy using it today and every day...

TUESDAY TUNES:APPRECIATION OF AN OLDIE

Sometimes an oldie ( 1999?) speaks to you in a different way years later.. Perhaps it is that time is continually filled with new life experiences, and we just have to Breathe. Here is Blu Cantrell  and Sean Paul.

MONDAY MUSINGS: SALING, NOT JUST FOR THE BIRDS

MONDAY MUSINGS this week are a result of a new vehicle to shop. It's called Marketplace.  Marketplace on Facebook has opened up the world of 'saling' beyond our own neighborhoods of garage and estate sales to other neighborhoods, even in different cities to enjoy shopping and paying a fraction of the items ' original cost. 

Last weekend it was off to Searcy, a 40-minute drive but a field trip to boot.  I called up junior high buddy, Chris, who also enjoys thrifting and we had a ball. 'Lunched at one of the 2 suggested diners: 

Chit, Chat and Chew.

Part of the restaurant where we sat must have been an alleyway originally as one wall still donned the original Coke mural. 

How cool is that?

Chi Chat and Chew is filled with atmosphere beside locals who stare at newcomers with great interest... 

The place was hopping by the time we finished. 

Our waiter asked us what brought us to town and it so happens he loves thrifting too and has an additional building to store all his finds as does the owner obviously from the diner's decor.

My Marketplace 'meetup' was at the designated area at the police station which apparently many towns encourage to provide a 'safe' place to meet. Unfortunately, in today's world even small towns have bad things happen.

Look what we spotted across the street from the police station where all items are donated and whose sale proceeds go to help all the furry creatures at their local shelter. It was our duty and pleasure to help out. 

It definitely was a fun way to spend our time and money. Sometimes it's the journey as much as it is the purchase...

AND in case you are wondering, here's the purchase that inspired the trip. Yes, it's for the birds, a 4 plex no less. The price of this birdhouse,  priceless. Wouldn't you agree?

TBT: WEEKLY HOLIDAYs MADE BETTER

 TBT: Holidays become better sharing with our loved ones. One such holiday happens once a week , the Sabbath. Sometimes I get a phone call to share the holiday lighting the candles together while singing Sabbath melodies. Last year at this time Ms H was visiting to brighten my weekend.
