MONDAY MUSINGS:TWO VICTIMS OF A LYNCHING :A HUMAN BEING AND CIVILIZATION

No matter how painful, some stories have to be told, especially from the years of this country's slavery filled with its resistance, the Civil War, Reconstruction and Jim Crow.

In Jackson, Mississippi there is a museum where one can learn about Mississippi's Civil Rights movement (1945 - 1970) through a plethora of exhibits, oral histories, films, artifacts and media posts. There are 7 galleries encircling a main round center called This Little Light of Mine with gospel music crescendoing as visitors can sit, look and listen...

One gallery has two sided illuminated columns with racially motivated killings with name after name of lynched blacks dividing its center.  (R)

Random racial slurs sound out from speakers as one reads those names/ views the walls.

Remember the Fallen

In fact, expect an overload of your senses from this museum. The exhibits are both powerful and overwhelming and a perfect reason to rent a headset and audio tape to zero in on the  information.

Zoom in below to see how many of your state's representatives voted against the Anti-Lynching bill...

"There are always two victims of a lynching- a human being and a civilization."
So many lives were lost/ ruined earning the right to vote, making it all the more important for each citizen to exercise their voting rights. Poor turnout at the polls unfortunately abounds in our country. We must eliminate voter apathy and be cognizant of gerrymandering," a corrupt practice that ensures boundaries benefit political parties," and elect officials who represent the best interests of society.

The race conversation must continue until there is no reason for a 'Me Too' movement.

No matter how unsettling, I so appreciated the opportunity to have been able to spend some time during my Jackson visit at their Museum of Civil Rights... May we all remember the importance of  our country's past, its present so that future generations will also remember.
