BEDECKEN & KETUBAH

The photographer knew the grass was greener in the park up the street /at least quieter with less of a chance of running into wedding guests. So our tootsies got an early workout as we walked where the groomsmen would meet the bridesmaids.

Everybody looked terrific in their finery.

The boys also cleaned up very nicely...

After park photos it was time for the Ketubah signing and the Bedecken before the wedding ceremony.  We returned to a small meeting room in the hotel as these traditions would be semi-private with just the Rabbi, Bride and Groom, Parents and two witnesses, the Matron of Honor Rachelle and Bryan, one of the Best Men.

The Ketubah, the marriage contract, is written in both Hebrew and English. Lori and Evan had a very special Ketubah as they had customized it by adding their own words and using a beautifully carved frame as Evan's deceased father was a woodworker.

As is custom, the wedding couple signed the Ketubah in addition to the Rabbi and two Jewish witnesses, their Matron of Honor and one of the Best Men.

Next was the Bedecken, the Veiling Ceremony, when the groom veils the Bride. This has biblical roots of the groom ensuring he has the correct woman. It was. Whew. Each parent then gave their blessing to the couple. Who could talk at a moment like this? So many of the day's emotions : crying, hugging, kissing as we completed this age old tradition most importantly remembering those who weren't with us but still sharing this moment in spirit.

NOW it was time to leave the peacefulness of the moment and go on to the public ceremony under the chuppah. Stay tuned...

* Special thanks to Joe for his beautiful park photos and Irv at the Bedecken.
