It's All in a Name/ Is It?

Simon
Sometimes roles reverse and it is our children that introduce us to something new. Such was the case this weekend in Newburg Corners at Leo and Leona's as Natureman's youngest, Simon opened for a duo called Smooth Hound Smith with about 50 folks in attendance in the unique setting of the old dance hall on the ridge on a late Sunday afternoon.

Smooth Hound Smith
Zack and Caitlin, Californians, who perform in Smooth Hound Smith presently make Nashville their home. One can imagine the twang one absorbs just being in that country music city. Their sound is americana, a southern type porch rhythm and blues foot stomping music.

Before their performance
Caitlin explained to me the origin of the group's name. It turns out Zack's Dad is a marine archeologist if I got that title correct. He studies the ocean floor and one day was talking about a small shark, Smooth Hound, which covered the ocean floor.  The name Smooth Hound,  sounded like a winner with Zack's surname Smith. Hence Smooth Hound Smith.  Caitlin said she can't write lyrics and it's Zack who's the songwriter although they did sing a song they co-wrote.

I recognize those folks on the dance floor.
They even got some folks up and moving (not a given as they commented about midwesterners)

Thanks to all our buds who came out to hear and support Simon's music and be introduced to a relatively new group Smooth Hound Smith. You couldn't get a better couple of hours of entertainment for a $5 bill anywhere else...
