Squash It

As one drives down country roads those roadside produce stands are now filling with all kinds of fall produce.

Do you know the difference between pumpkins, gourds and squash?

Actually they are all of the same 'cucurbita' family with three subgroups pepo, maxima and moschata. But hey, I won't bore you with the details unless you really want to know.

Suffice it to say it was time to harvest here in the End of the Rainbow Valley... We ended up with a nice cartful this year.

See if you can identify any of these?

Here are some multiple choice possibilites. ( Hey once a teacher, always a teacher!) Butternut Squash, Spaghetti Squash, Acorn Squash, and a new type this year in the valley, a Red Kuri.
Sorry our pumpkin didn't grow this year so I'll throw in an extra point to your scores. It's only fair.

                                            Happy Fall!

  1. The red kuri looks like a Christmas tree ornament....or any other kind of decoration for a tree...very colorful.
