Catch 'ya in Ketchikan...

Ketchikan established in 1900 was built on rock nestled back into the hills along the water line. Due to all its canneries Ketchikan became known as the 'Salmon Capital of the World.'

Alaskan Salmon is harvested from pristine waters offering an environmentally sound, naturally healthy and delicious excellent source of Omega 3 which promotes a healthy heart and immune system. 15% of your daily calcium is in 22g of protein per serving. We had many opportunities to eat salmon on our trip.

The city's extensive use of timber is due to its availability and is apparent in its boardwalks, exquisite totem poles and wooden pilings upon which the city is propped.

Creek Street

Creek Street known for housing bordellos along its boardwalk in the Prohibition Era today houses gift shops, restaurants and the like catering to the now most important industry of TOURISM.

Known as the wettest Alaskan city with 165 "annual precipitation, the day's fog was burning off as we arrived and a beautiful sky picture window greeted us. We had very lovely weather with the exception of one of our days at sea...

Bronzed statuary settlers welcome the thousands of cruise passengers that board/disembark in their port.

Colors are just more intense in Alaska

Natureman and I chose different activities to do in Ketchikan. He opted for the kayak trip and saw an eagle and a seal.  I on the other hand chose ziplining with Alaska Canopy adventure. Due to the rough terrain massive open bed vehicles took us to the training cabin where we watched a video and geared up. Then it was out to the training zip line to practice before we hit the zipline route which consisted of 6 ziplines of varying lengths and speeds, a suspension bridge and repelling down to the last section of the adventure on an Alpine slide.

Who could remember all those directions? What red line?
Well  I did it all.   Do I look like a happy camper or what?

Another item marked off my bucket list... Start sooner rather than later while you can still enjoy!

Next on to Victoria, our last stop, and then Seattle.

  1. Sigh....another spot I didn't get to see because it was the cruise portion of the trip. Oh the woe of having to sleep with the bus driver! I've thought about ziplining - it sounds terrifying and exciting all at once. As you cross things OFF your bucket list I'm adding to mine.
